VIXEN CRUISE FAQ

Q: What is the Vixen Cruise?
A: The short answer is that it is the female equivalent of the men’s Stag Cruise. In honor of our female commodore, the event will be all women for this year only. It is a chance to go to Buffalo Beach to relax, meet new people and catch up with old friends. There will be morning yoga on the beach, hikes, a small regatta (designed for sailors and non-sailors alike) and evening entertainment. Games including a scavenger hunt will count towards prizes awarded on Saturday night! We're bringing staff along as well, so expect great meals and an open bar.

Q: Where is it?
A: Catalina! More specifically at White's Landing/Buffalo Beach (The SDYC Catalina Outstation) and the adjoining facility formerly known as the Catalina Experience.

Q: What do I need to bring with me?
A: Pretty much just your clothes, toiletries and a sleeping bag. The committee is working on glamming the place up a little, but the terrain is mostly sand and grass so practical shoes (think flip-flops or sneakers) a bathing suit, hat and casual clothes. There is talk of a costume contest but that information will arrive via top-secret email!

Q: Can I still go if I don’t have a boat?
A: Of course! You can take a ferry or helicopter to Catalina and be picked up by an SDYC boat in Avalon. You can also hitch a ride on a friend’s boat. There are platform tents with bunk beds available. Sign up and select “camp onshore” when you register. You can make a note to be assigned with your friends! There also may be berths available on other members’ boats.

Q: What if I want to bring my boat?
A: Great! Moorings will be reserved and assigned. Fee is included for the event.

Q: I want to bring my boat but I’m not a confident skipper...
A: Register for the women’s boat handling seminar! We also have a few qualified step-on skippers available to accompany you on your trip - first come, first served - so select the option when you register your boat for the event.

Q: I want to go but I have so many little questions!
A: Come to our informational meeting on Saturday, August 10 at 9:30AM in the Spinnaker Room.

Q: Can I bring my non-SDYC friends?
A: Exclusive member sign up through July 31. Starting August 1, a member may register one guest, which registration and fees will be charged to the member's account.
