Sea Scouts

Ship 1886 is SDYC’s co-ed leadership development and maritime training program.

Open to youth aged 14 to 20, the Ship instills values and provides practical life experiences. The Ship is a youth lead organization teaching leadership skills through practical hands-on training and working as a team. The program is open to SDYC members as well as youth from the Community.

Sea Scouts will study general maritime skills such as navigation, rules of the road, marlinspike seamanship, and boat maintenance whilst earning ranks of Ordinary, Able and Quartermaster (the equivalent to Eagle Scout) throughout their time within the Ship.

Scouts will have the opportunity to practice those skills underway on both power and sailing vessels. There is also the equally important element of leadership, team building, professional conduct, trust and all the other values that the Sea Scouts have come to represent.
