SUMMER IS HERE! The air has been a bit light, but Cissy and I have been able to get out a bit and enjoy the weather. Time has been very precious to us for the last several months with a multitude of obligations and trips. We are looking forward to getting back in the sailing groove and spending more time at the club. Our personal favorites are still those late afternoon evening sails followed by a nice glass of milk on the clubhouse front deck!

After anxiously awaiting the Kettenburg Regatta sponsored by the Ancient Mariners, we saw nine boats at the line. It was a great event. The wind was light but enough to allow us all to enjoy the day of two races. Congratulations to #66 for a fine showing. The SWYC will host a reception after the regatta with our Paul Kettenburg as the guest of honor. I think that since Paul NEVER misses this regatta, he should consider building himself another K boat so he can join us sailing as well!

Last month, our fleet sailed two events. The SDAMM sponsored the Yesteryear Regatta, which saw 7 boats at the line. Congrats to all of you and special acknowledgement should go to numbers 62, 26 and 11, finishing in that order! Hull #’s 63, 66, 37 and 9 also represented the fleet. We also had similar turn
out for the One Designs. The wind was very light and did not offer much to the day, but I still wish to hand out some “atta boy”s to those who made it out to the water.

I was THRILLED to see #84 at the docks of the club!! Carl Eichenlaub, as expected, has done a fine job with the boat. She is just lovely! I am told that Carl will take a bit of time off before he starts on the spars. We wish him the best and look forward to witnessing yet more progress on this historic vessel!

Last week brought a wonderful surprise. I received an email from a fellow back on the east coast who owned #62 in the 1970’s! He contacted Steve Barber of the Kettenburg Boats website, who passed the note along to me. Rob Lofthouse was on my list as “a past owner” of SLIPSTICK but I could not confirm that. Now I have and I know that he loved the boat. We have since exchanged a number of emails and he confirmed the name of the person he bought her from. Rob was thrilled to see digital photos of his old boat and especially pleased to know that our Jack Sutphen is doing so well with her!

July 23rd and 24th are the dates for the PC Nationals. We are in contact with the Marina Del Rey fleet to see if any boats will be coming down to join in. Preparations are being made to schedule the usual BBQ and awards ceremony. Mark your calendars, as notices well be sent out soon.
