Saturday, April 20, 2024 at 11:00am - 5:00pm
SDYC

This will be a one-day racing clinic for 29ers with a focus on how to use data analytics to improve race performance. We will put GPS trackers on the boat during the races and B Lindsay will show you how to use that information during the post-racing debriefs.

HEAD COACH:

Catherine “B” Lindsay is a data analyst and sailor from Southern California. Racing boats from the age of 8, she holds two World titles and three US National titles across four different classes.  B graduated from Yale with a degree in Statistics & Data Science while campaigning for the 2024 Olympics in the iQFoil windsurfer. She has worked as the data analyst for the US Sailing Team (USST) and consulted on sports analytics for the US Olympic committee and other Team USA NGBs. She now runs Sailytics, a data analysis company. She continues to support the USST as their Performance Data Analyst in the lead up to and in Marseille at the 2024 Olympic Games.

For sailors with a 29er:

You may register with a teammate or you can register solo and be paired with a teammate by the coaches.

For sailors needing use of an HPYS loaner boat:

You must register for the clinic individually but can put on the registration form if you have a preferred teammate. All these applications will be initially listed as “pending" to give the organizers time to ensure sufficient loaner boats and coaches. We may not be able to admit every applicant and will let sailors know if they have been accepted as soon as possible after the application deadline.

Clinic cost is $50/sailor. Additional fee of $50/sailor for use of an HPYS loaner boat plus damage deposit.

Damage Deposit for teams using an HPYS loaner boat: any SDYC member who pays by club charge, we reserve the right to charge your member account a one-time fee of up to $250 for boat damage. For those paying by credit card, we reserve the right to re-charge your card a one-time fee of up to $250 for boat damage.

Safety: It is recommended that sailors wear a wetsuit and booties. Crews should have properly fitting trapeze harnesses. All sailors will need to wear a rash guard or pinnie over their trapeze harness and lifejacket to ensure that buckles are covered. A Fox40 whistle must be attached to your lifejacket.

Schedule:

Saturday 11AM - 5PM  Pizza during debrief

Venue: SDYC

Gear: Be prepared to be on the water sailing for 4 to 5 hours. Bring appropriate gear including safety gear listed above plus dry bag with any extra gear and plenty of water and quick, healthy snacks to keep you going!
