Jake La Dow and Team SDYC at the Lipton Cup
Monday, November 4, 2024
Thank you for your recent support of the SDYC Lipton Cup team. The Lipton Cup is a well-known event hosted by SDYC and is regarded as the top West coast fleet racing event among national and international yacht clubs.
The 2024 event hosted 12 competing teams over three days of racing in South San Diego Bay. A fleet of J105’s is generously offered by private boat owners. It was remarkable to see the equalization among boats. Conditions allowed for a full 12 race series in conditions that ranged from 0-13kts. The race committee did a great job in challenging breeze. Team SDYC got off to a hot start winning the first two races. That seemed to calm the nerves and put us on a track to simplify our approach and focus on consistency. The team sailed a great series winning the overall event. Sailing team: Jake La Dow, Chris Busch, Nevin Snow, Erik Shampain, Lucy Wallace, Max Hutcheson, Andy Reiter.
This win is a success of so many people beyond the sailing team. Commodore Pleskus and his team, the regatta management group, boat owners, Race Committee, Umpires, SDYC staff, and hundreds of volunteers all came together to put on a world class regatta.
In terms of support and getting our team to the starting line the Competition Fund is the tip of the spear. This would not have been possible without the Competition Fund's generous support. Our entire team and I feel very privileged to have represented SDYC and have the Comp Fund's backing. SDYC has a rich tradition of yacht racing excellence, and it is the work of the Comp Fund and many others that keep this tradition alive and push our standards of excellence to higher levels. Thank you for all that you do! Go SDYC!
