Description 
Ashley Bown. Commodore 1969. Ash Bown, born April 30, 1912, in Saskatchewan, Canada, came to San Diego in 1920 and attended Grant School, Roosevelt Junior High, and San Diego High School. His first job was on the ketch "Vileehi," and his first major race to Honolulu on the "Teva" in 1926. Bown, a tremendous racing competitor in all classes, was commodore the year the Star World Championship Races were hosted by the yacht club. Ash opened his heart and home to competitors who came from throughout the world to compete. As commodore he supervised the maintenance of the clubhouse and increased the number of slips for the leased space available. His wife Ruth and daughter Judy were participants in the SDYC activities. Bown died in 1988.
