On June 22-24, 5-time U.S. Match Racing National Champion Dave Perry led an advanced S.O.D.A. youth match racing clinic, sponsored by North U, at the San Diego Yacht Club. Nine of the top teams in the U.S. trained hard for two and a half days in the Club’s J/22’s. Included in the group was the U.S. representative to the 2018 Youth Match Racing World Championship in Italy and six of the ten teams in the upcoming U.S. Youth National Match Racing Championship for the Rose Cup. Six of the teams were from southern California and the others were from San Francisco Bay, Minnesota and Texas.
“This was the most advanced match racing clinic I have ever been involved with,” said Perry with enthusiasm after the event; “the kids were great, very cooperative and respectful and hard working, and they all improved tremendously.” Perry also thanked his co-coach Mike Pinckney from the Balboa Yacht Club, as well as the volunteers and staff of the San Diego Yacht Club for their continued support of youth match racing.
