Summer Sailing 2019: Setting Up for Success!

By John Fretwell | March 01, 2019
2019 Summer Program

For generations, SDYC’s Summer Program has provided an exceptional opportunity for kids to radically expand their sailing experience, in a safe, fun, and intensive setting with friends. This year’s program aims to maintain all those favorite features, while also making a few tweaks for modernization and improvement, and taking advantage of major regattas near home, this summer. Early Member Registration for the 2019 Summer Program opens Wed, March 6 th at 1200 PDT. Here’s what parents should know:

All Summer Program registration is achieved online at www.sdyc.org/juniors/summer

No third-party registration system will be used this year, and no new account creation will be required. Your SDYC account number confirms membership. All discounted Early Member Registrations must be charged to your SDYC account, but billing will not occur until your June statement, which may be paid by credit card, following the Club’s standard policy.

Early Member Registration extends through March 19th . On Wed, March 20th at 1200 PDT, registration open to the public, and all discounted pricing expires.

Cancelations before March 20 will receive a full refund. Cancelations on or after March 20 will receive a 50% discount.

Each child must be registered separately. Data you’ll need handy for each child includes:

  • Date of Birth o School grade completed in June 2019
  • Weight
  • T-shirt size
  • Last class/activity participated in with SDYC, if any
  • Any medical/allergy issues
  • Agreement to our Waiver/Consent forms.

In order to ensure sailors are enrolled in appropriate classes, those registering for Wait Lists for full classes may only select sessions of one class type. For instance, you may select all session wait lists for the Sea Urchins class, but not wait lists for both Sea Urchins and Beginner Sabots during Session I.

New for 2019- Traditional AM Beginner Sabot class titles, Sea Horses and Sea Otters are being retired! We’ll market the same 24 AM Sabot slots as “Beginner Sabots”, with improved skill-development strategies. Since these sessions usually sell out, we’re even launching a 12 week Spring Fridays Afterschool session of the same class, perfect for older beginners hoping to be ready for racing in summer. Click here to register for Spring Beginner Sabots as part of Afterschool Sailing.

Advanced Campaigns- this summer includes traditional big regattas like the Junior Olympics, CFJ Nationals, and Junior Sabot Nationals; and also exciting special events like US Sailing’s Youth Match Race Championship, and Junior Women’s Doublehanded Championship, both at SDYC. Advanced sailors should consider our E-ticket for the best value and maximum sailing. We’ll hold an Advanced Planning Meeting on Fri, Mar 1st, and encourage sailors and parents to attend.

Please contact the Junior Office with any questions, and we look forward to an excellent summer on the water with you!
