Team San Diego Yacht Club announced they have filed the necessary entry documents and fee required as of the December 1, 2018 deadline set by the New York Yacht Club to compete in the 2019 NYYC Invitational Cup. Team SDYC officially has a spot on the starting line at the 2019 regatta.
“Nick Martin, Nick Kashak, Max Hutcheson, many SDYC members, friends and the Club’s leadership have been working hard since September getting the SDYC’s Invitational Cup effort organized. We are very excited that SDYC is officially entered in the 2019 edition of the NYYC Invitational Cup,” said Resolute skipper Tyler Sinks. “Step 1 is complete. Now the real work begins. This is going to be a very hard fought regatta, no question. Team SDYC has a lot to do to bring the best effort to the starting line next September. The goal is clear, win.”
Every other year, prestigious Yacht Clubs from around the globe are invited by the New York Yacht Club to compete in the NYYC Invitational Cup, sponsored by Rolex. However, Yacht Club teams from the USA must qualify for a single “at large” berth. There is just one avenue for a USA club to compete in the NYYC Invitational Cup; win the Resolute Cup. This past September, Team SDYC did just that, punching “the golden ticket” and securing the coveted Invitational Cup invite by besting 27 other USA yacht clubs at the 2018 Resolute Cup.
The New York Yacht Club Invitational Cup is the yacht club challenge championship of the world. The 2019 edition of this prestigious bi-annual event has taken shape and the field is set. Twenty (20) of the most prestigious yacht clubs from 14 countries, on 5 continents and the far reaches of the globe will be sending fully supported, superbly coached and thoroughly practiced teams to vie for the Cup.
This will be SDYC’s first run at the NYYC Invitational Cup, but no one is counting out the SDYC Team that advanced from rigorous Resolute Cup qualifier. In 2016, Southern Yacht Club won the Resolute Cup and went on to win the 2017 edition of the NYYC Invitational Cup.
