Ida Lewis US Women’s Doublehanded Champs

By | July 28, 2011

Thank you so much for making it possible for my crew Marly Isler and I to compete in the Ida Lewis Regatta in Mantoloking, NJ.  We started out with three days of clinic and boat preparation led by six excellent coaches from US Sailing.  During these days of clinic we focused on perfecting our boat handling and familiarizing ourselves with the venue.  Going into the event we felt confident with our boat speed, boat handling, and communication as a team together.  The first day of racing brought light and very shifty winds, which proved to be difficult for the entire fleet.  We ended the day in 8th place.

Day two brought much more consistent breeze around 8-14 knots and after posting a few top ten finishes we were in 4th place.  The last day of the event brought heavy winds around 15-20 knots, but unfortunately race committee was only able to get two races off in the great conditions.  We won the first one and finished seventh in the last race, putting us in fifth place overall.

All in all Ida Lewis was a great event and I am so lucky that this trip was made possible with the help of the SDYC Competition Fund. Thank you!
