To celebrate opening day, the San Diego Yacht Club will be holding several festivities and competitions, such as the Best Dressed Dock competition, where the dock with the highest percentage of dressed yachts will be awarded a prize.

Jack Joslin at the C420 Midwinters East

By Jack Joslin | April 10, 2017

I have had the fortune to attend Mid Winter’s East 420 Regatta in the past and usually the wind in Jensen Beach, Florida is great. Unfortunately this year the wind was very light and inconsistent.  As a heavier boat we were wishing for big breeze. We managed some good races despite the conditions and looked to learn as much as possible with the varying winds. Overall it was a great experience to compete among the top 420 sailors and as usual the field was among the best. Having the fortune to sail in various venues only helps my skills and I am very thankful to the SDYC membership and the the Competition Fund for their support of my growth as a sailor.

Consistency Prevails at Etchells Midwinters

By Emily Willhoft | April 06, 2017

There were 28 boats racing in the Coronado Roads March 31 – April 2 for the Etchells Midwinters West regatta hosted by San Diego Yacht Club. Following the NOOD Regatta, the Midwinters was the second event in the Etchells West Coast Spring Series. Over 3 days of raceing, the Race Committee pulled off all 11 scheduled races, using one as a throw out score. According to competitors, winds were lighter than expected, averaging about 6-10 knots throughout the weekend. The breeze was shifty and streaky at times, with noticeable current on Sunday.
