Every October, the San Diego Association of Yacht Clubs interviews one nominee from each participating local club, to determine the recipient of the Paul Hartley Memorial Award- San Diego's Junior Yachtsperson of the Year. In efforts to put forward our very best nominee, SDYC accepts in-house applications first, with our finalist selected from those applications by the Junior Activities Committee. Applicants must not turn 18 before 12/31/18, but otherwise tend to be high school upperclassmen, with a strong record of racing results, service to the sailing community, or ideally, both.

Potential Hartley Award applicants should review all details on the SDAYC website, and submit their application to me electronically, as a PDF file, by midnight on Sun, Sept 16. Due to the tight timeline on this process, sorry, no late applications will be accepted.

The JAC will identify SDYC's Hartley finalist, no later than Fri, Sept 21, after which I will assist with any refinement of our final application packet. The final packet, signed by SDYC Commodore, must be submitted to SDAYC no later than Mon, Oct. 1.
