Yacht Inspection & Hospitality

There are two opportunities for showing off your vessel on Opening Day! You may enter into the Yacht lnspection Competition, or host Yacht Club members as a Hospitality Boat (or both!).

Yacht lnspection - Members are encouraged to prepare their vessels and request inspection. Yacht inspections will be conducted on Saturday, April 22, 2017. lnspected vessels must be open for Hospitality on Sunday after inspection. Members requesting inspection should be sure to pick up a copy of the "Requirements and Recommendations" handout for inspected vessels.

Yacht Hospitality - "A Time Honored Tradition..." Yacht owners welcome members and friends aboard their vessels after the Opening Day Ceremony for camaraderie and good cheer. The Yacht Club will provide snacks and beverages to help entertain and refresh your guests. Balloons will be delivered to identify your vessel. Your vessel name and location will be listed in the Opening Day program. lf you don't have a slip at the club and would like to participate in Hospitality, call the Dockmaster for a temporary slip.

Best Dressed Dock Competition

Members with vessels docked at the Club are requested to "Dress Ship" for the 132nd "Opening Day" at the San Diego Yacht Club. As an incentive, the dock with the highest percentage of dressed yachts will be awarded a prize. In the past, the prize has been a dock cart full of beer and wine.

Dressed vessels on each dock will be counted at 0900 on Sunday, April 23 prior to the ceremony. The percentage will then be calculated. The dock with the highest percentage of dressed yachts will be announced and the prize will be awarded during the ceremony.

Dig out your old signal flags or buy a new set, but be sure they are flying high on Opening Day.

Flags do not have to be displayed in any particular order. They only need to create a colorful and festive appearance. Irrepressible overachievers can get creative and spell out your boat name, the Commodore's name or some other appropriate words of phrases.
