SDYC

This is a multi-level 29er clinic: both for sailors who are interested in gaining proficiency in the 29er and improving their double-handed trapeze/spinnaker skills and for advanced teams to prepare for Youth Champs.

Coaches:  Jon Rogers and Dane Wilson.  We will hire additional coaches as needed to provide appropriate instruction for a range of levels.

About our Coaches:

Jon Rogers is the Head Coach at SDYC. He is a multi-time World and National sailing champion who has coached professionally for Coronado Yacht Club, JWorld, NorthU, US Sailing and CISA. He has trained many champion 29er sailors since the late 90’s including Paris, Hans Henken, Riley Gibbs, Quinn and Dane Wilson, Judge Ryan, Cooper Dressler, Helena Scutt and many more.

Dane Wilson is an accomplished 49er sailor, former US National Champion and top US 49er team in 2020. Dane competed twice in the Youth Worlds in the 29er and is an accomplished foiling kiter.

Please contact Coach Jon Rogers at buenorogers@gmail.com if you are unsure if this clinic is the correct level for you.

For sailors with a 29er:

You may register with a teammate or you can register solo and be paired with a teammate by the coaches.

For sailors needing use of an HPYS loaner boat:

You must register for the class individually but can put on the registration form if you have a preferred teammate. All these applications will be initially listed as “pending" to give the organizers time to ensure sufficient loaner boats and coaches. We may not be able to admit every applicant and will let sailors know if they have been accepted as soon as possible after the application deadline.

Application deadline is September 28th at midnight.

Clinic cost is $200/sailor for SDYC member ($250 for non-SDYC) with a $100 discount for bringing your own boat.

Damage Deposit for teams using an HPYS loaner boat: any SDYC member who pays by club charge, we reserve the right to charge your member account a one-time fee of up to $250 for boat damage. For those paying by credit card, we reserve the right to re-charge your card a one-time fee of up to $250 for boat damage.

Safety: It is recommended that sailors wear a wetsuit and booties. Crews should have properly fitting trapeze harnesses. All sailors will need to wear a rash guard or pinnie over their trapeze harness and lifejacket to ensure that buckles are covered. A Fox40 whistle must be attached to your lifejacket.

Schedule: Saturday and Sunday 10AM - 5PM. Pizza on Saturday during debrief.

Venue: SDYC

Gear: Be prepared to be on the water sailing for 4 to 5 hours. Bring appropriate gear including safety gear listed above plus dry bag with any extra gear and plenty of water and quick, healthy snacks to keep you going!
