No-host food & drinks available. Meet the Dock Crew and check out “YOUR” docks. It will be Fun! Please Come…

Ever since the America’s Cup World Series came to San Diego in November 2011, the Support Docks and Dock Crew have been hosting maritime events on San Diego Bay.  These two salvaged docks, named Alpha (144’ x 8’) and Bravo (104’ x 8’), have worked many regattas over the past 5 years providing dock support to SDYC sponsored races like the Pacific Coast High School Qualifiers/Championships and the Inter-Collegiate Sailing Association U.S. National Championships that recently completed this June 2016 at the B Street Pier.

During the J/70 North American Championship Regatta last September 2016, the Alpha + Bravo dock combination provided an additional 500 lineal feet of dock while attached front and center to our SDYC Guest Dock.  This perpendicular configuration provided enough extra dock space for over 50 J/70’s to be secured overnight between race days.  We plan to use the same configuration again during the “dredging project” to provide temporary slip space to displaced boats from the ever-changing dredging location within our SDYC waters.  More details later…

Starting in 2012, the year that SDYC became the sponsoring Yacht Club for the International Masters Cup, the Support Docks have hosted both the IMC and the Lipton Cup Regattas which usually occur annually the last two weekends of each October.  These 2 back-to-back regattas will again be providing a rotation dock asset to the R/C that allows for the simultaneous dockage of all 12 J/105’s between each race as each crew hot-switches to their next assigned boat.  That “start box” close proximity to the start/finish R/C signal boat action all takes place just off of our city’s Embarcadero waterfront downtown.

After the Antique and Classic Boat Society gathering the first weekend of October 2016, the Support Dock Committee and Dock Crew plan to replace the Bravo deck planking and repair the  below deck structure while the Alpha dock plays host to the A&CBS event.  After competition of the deck maintenance on Bravo, the Dock Crew will then replace some of the worn-out floats under the Alpha dock during the 2nd week dock maintenance this October.

To celebrate the volunteer efforts of the Support Dock Crew who do all of the Maintenance, Movements and Manning of the docks, we are inviting all SDYC members to come join us at our first ever DocktoberFest 2016.  You are invited to our post-maintenance dock party as our way to get the SDYC general membership, people like yourselves, to come meet the Dock Crew and check out “your” docks, grab a couple of “dock-cos” and enjoy a ”Dock-ahhh-Rita” or your favorite beverage.

SDYC Members: Please log in to view the registration list for this event.
