The PC Nationals Sept 12th and 13th

The 2009 PC Nationals is over and was a fantastic race series thanks to Fleet Captain Tom Hurlburt (#31 SKYLARK). I also wish to thank the SDYC for their help and, of course, Mike and Marilyn Foster and their terrific race committee. As you all know, NONE of the fleets at the SDYC would be able to enjoy a race series were it not for the kindness and professional direction of these great people. THANK YOU Mike and Marilyn!

The fleet saw 10 boats at the line for a series of 5 races total. Other boats signed up to join in but for various reasons could not participate. We respect and thank all of you who tried and raced only some of the races.

The results were: 1st Tom Hurlburt, #31, 2nd Bruce Sutphen, #64 and 3rd Betty Sue and Jeff Sherman, #84. Congratulations to you all. Full results can be seen at http://www.sdyc.org/raceinfo/results09/pcnationals_res.htm

Thanks to all who particiapted and who keep this 75 year old fleet a popular and growing group!

On March 31st, the SDYC PC fleet welcomed members of the Duxbury YC to team race with our PCs. It was a terrific event with our east coast guests being hosted by fleet and club members alike. We were all happy to return the kindness offered by the DYC when several from our group went back east last year to team race with their "Pintails". Fleet Captain, Bennet Greenwald, (with the help of several fleet members) arranged for parties and dinners that were enjoyed by all. The weather was perfect with 10-15 K winds and beautiful sunny skies. As always our thanks to John and Ann Folting for putting a great Committee Boat team together. Last year the DYC bested our intreped sailors making the Duxbury group winners of our "Pickford Trophy". This year the trophy will have the SDYC name inscribed as the winner! Jack Sutphen and his crew did well and made sure that the PC would not lose the honors! PC Fleet Captain Bennet Greenwald came in second.

PC sailor and friend Carl Hancock wrote a piece describing the 76th PC Natioinals held last month and generously offered it to be posted on the site. For those of you who don't know Carl, he is an experienced sailor who has crewed with Jack Sutphen (Past PC National Champion and of America's Cup fame) for over 8 years. Carl is also the creator of a great San Diego Racing site to be found at www.sdsailing.com.

My thanks to Carl for submitting this well written review of PC Nationals 2006.

SDYC "One Designs"

This was another wonderful day for the PC Fleet. We saw 7 boats at the line for 3 races. The winds began at 10-15 but soon climbed to 15-17 with approximate gusts of 20! Race comittee director, John Folting, (as usual) preformed his magic and made the day a thrill for all. The final tally was as follows: 31, 21, 18, 66, 14, 44 and 9, in that order. Some of the PC skippers elected to act as crew in an effort to share some time with fellow PC skippers! That is what PC Corinthian Spirit is all about! On a sad note, #44 lost a chain stay fasterner which brought her mast down in pieces. The good news is that no one was injured! Thanks go to #66 for coming to the rescue!

This report comes by way of Fleet Captain Bennet Greenwald, #18.
