Bill Hardesty Wins 2014 Etchells World Championship

By | June 28, 2014

With one race to spare, SDYC's Bil Hardesty has won his second Etchells World Championship in 4 years, with a dominating performance over the highly skilled 94 boat fleet competing in Newport, RI out of New York Yacht Club. The field will race the final race of the 9 race series without Team LineHonors in the fleet, as their cumulative score including the throwout has sealed their Championship victory without needing to race the final race. This was the case in 2011 as well, as Hardesty had a very similar results sheet to this year. (See 2011 Results and 2014 Results).

Hardesty also won the Etchells Worlds in 2008 (results).

The LineHonors crew this year are Taylor Canfield, Stephanie Roble, and Marcus Eagan. Their unofficial finish position in Race 8 was 15th, which sealed the victory.

SDYC's Kjeld Hestehave sailed a great Race 8 as well, narrowly missing the race 8 victory by a few feet while finishing 2nd in the race.

Final results will be published later today.
