June Buffalo Beach Updates

Jim and Susy Dorsey did it again by throwing a great Buffalo Beach Bash. I can't wait to see what they come up with next year.

Scott Launey and his work party team have made Buffalo Beach better than ever this year. The pavers they installed will be enjoyed by everyone who visits Buffalo Beach for years to come. Please take a look at the June Mainsheet for more information on the 2011 work party accomplishments.

The old float has been replaced, and two sections of Jean Malthaner's famous float steps have been installed. Take a look at the pictures and video links below.

The Buffalo Beach Bash

The Buffalo Beach Bash was a ton of fun and a huge success. Jim and Susy Dorsey panned a great party, and many SDYC members helped carry out their vision. Jim reported that the event brought in approximately $10,000!

The Buffalo Beach Committee would like to thank Jim and Susy Dorsey, all of the volunteers who worked the event, everyone who donated items, and Commodore Hunt for his support.

Look for a complete recap of The Bash in the July Mainsheet. Jackie Mann was kind enough to submit pictures to Jared. Buffalo Beach Bash Photo Gallery.

White's Landing Float Replaced

On May 18th a strong south swell and high winds destroyed the float at Whites Landing. The good news is that our friends at The Catalina Experience were able to repair and install a replacement float in one week. The complete story and pictures can be found on the Catalina Experience blog. A related story is below regarding our float steps.

Scott and Gregg Re turn to Buffalo Beach

Scott Launey and Gregg Buckley returned to Buffalo Beach last week to install the Malthaner steps on the new float. These were the same steps that Scott and his crew retrieved from L.A. harbor a few months ago.

The surge was too big for installation on their first day at camp. Instead of drinking beers on the beach, Scott and Gregg decided to lay some more pavers. Here are the before and after pictures of their efforts.

The surge died down a little on the second day and the two man work party installed two float step sections.

Gregg Buckley created a couple of cool videos from his waterproof camera.

Dive with Gregg under the new float.

Thanks for the great work Scott and Gregg. And thanks to Jean Malthaner for designing, building, and repairing the float steps.
