SCORING
Appendix A4 - Low Point System will be used for all scoring. Each fleet is scored separately.
Appendix A4.2 and A9 will be used for all scoring, with A9 modified as follows (modifications are in bold italic):
"For a series that is held over a period of time longer than a regatta, a boat that came to the starting area but did not start, did not finish, retired after finishing or was diqualified shall be scored points for the finishing place one more than the number of boats in each fleet that came to the starting area. A boat that did not come to the starting area shall be scored points for the finishing place one more than the number of boats in each fleet entered in the series.
The boat with the lowest series score is the winner, others ranked accordingly. Ties will be broken according to RRS A8.
SERIES FORMATS
A. Tuesday Racing
There are three Tuesday series annual: Winter (usually from January to mid-March), Spring (usually from mid-March to the June Party), and Fall (usually from September to the December Party). Specific start and end dates for each series are published on the fleet racing calendar each year.
Start Times: Spring and Fall series, 11:00 AM; Winter series, 11:30 AM. The goal is to complete 4 or more races.
Tuesday racing is cancelled prior to an SCWSA regatta that is scheduled on a Wednesday.
Tuesday racing is cancelled if there are not at least 5 committeed boats.
There are no requirements for the number of boats to make a fleet; if one sailor in a fleet races, he/she will be scored first for every race completed.
Tuesday Racing Trophies
Trophies are awarded in each fleet for each series.
The number of trophies awarded in each fleet will be determined by the Scoring/Trophy Chairman according to the number of sailors in each fleet who participated in at least 50% of the races in that particular series.
To be eligible for a trophy, sailors must be a member of the SSSS and participate in 50% of the races that are counted for that particular series.
B. Saturday Racing
Saturday racing takes place once a month all year round, with no seasonal series divisions.
Start Time: Noon
Saturday racing is cancelled if there are not at least 5 committed boats.
There are no requirements for the number of boats to make a fleet; if one sailor in a fleet races, he/she will be scored first for every race completed.
Saturday races are intended to be casual; trophies are not awarded.
C. Thursday Racing
Thursday racing takes place in the Summer months of June, July and August.
Start Time: 5:30 PM
Thursday racing may be cancelled if there are not at least 5 committed boats.
There are no requirements for the number of boats to make a fleet; if one sailor in a fleet races, he/she will be scored first for every race completed.
Thursday races are intended to be casual; trophies are not awarded.
Fleet Designations
Sailors new to the SSSS may choose in which fleet to race. They will remain in this fleet until an entire calendar year is completed, at which time novice sailors may choose to move to B Fleet. Sailors move to A Fleet only if they win B Fleet for the year.
In order to balance the fleets, any A Fleet sailor who has not trophied in any SSSS Series of SCWSA regatta during the prior three-year period may move to B Fleet the following year.
A National Champion and/or a winner of the Peter Davis Perpetual Trophy for SCWSA A Fleet 1st Place will sail in A Fleet permanently.
