Purpose:
  1. Encourage interest in amateur radio
  2. Serve the San Diego Yacht Club with communications for races and other activities
  3. Maintain a radio room and equipment
  4. Offer amateur radio classes and licensing
  5. Perform public service and support during any emergency
Meetings: The last Tuesday evening of the month (except July, August and December)
Cost: $20.00 per year billed through the SDYC Accounting Office in December
ARG Net: Opens at 0815 daily ("check-in" is optional) on 146.580 MHz (2 Meter simplex)
Radio Room: The SDYC Communications Center can be accessed 24/7 by qualified radio operators.
ARGJ Program:
  1. Open to Juniors 18 years or younger (no min age)
  2. Free training provided by ARG members
  3. FCC testing provided by accredited Volunteer Examiners (VEs) at minimal cost.
  4. Juniors who become licensed are awarded a hand-held radio with two conditions:
    1. Get one of their parents help and support to participate in ARGJ activities
    2. Help recruit and train one other Junior before leaving for college
  5. The ARGJs meet in person several times per year depending on schedule availability
  6. The ARGJ parent needs to become a member of the ARG
ARGJ Net:

Meets on-the-air at 7:30 PM on Thursday nights, can be done from home or mobile:

  1. Initial check-in taken by the ARGJ Net Control on 146.565 MHz (simplex), after a "roll-call" is taken, a frequency change is directed by the ARGJ Net Control.
  2. Second check-in taken by ARGJ Net Control on 146.730 MHz (-, PL 107.2).

The ARGJ Net is a "practice event" that takes less than 15 minutes to complete. The same procedures and frequencies will be used in the case of a "real" emergency.

ARGJ Benefits: Teaches basic math, physics and FCC rules that can be applied to all things electrical. Teaches radio communication knowledge and skills used both ashore and/or afloat. Training, FCC licensing and ARGJ Net participation increase college application content.
