I'm a new member and usually (try) to sail an International 14. I just got a slip at SDYC the other day for my new-to-me Santa Cruz 27 and put together a pick-up crew to go out and have some fun in the Hot Rum. I guess we got out to SD #3 before the race was abandoned. We were a little busy and missed the memo ... thought there was a parade of boats overtaking us but figured out what must be up while surfing to the leeward mark ... rounded anyway. Mark #3 (leeward mark) looked partially deflated and there was no clearing mark. We got a good workout dodging the forest of kelp. Quote of the day, "Hey ... where'd everybody go?"
